Checking Account

With a checking account from Hurricane Creek FCU, you pay no monthly service fees, yet earn dividends on balances over $100.  Also, you may be eligible for two free Visa Check (Debit) Cards with each account, however, some restrictions may apply.  Overdraft protection is available from savings for a low fee when used.

Visa Check (Debit) Card

Your Hurricane Creek Check Card may be used in place of paper checks.  When its time to pay the merchant for your purchases, simply tell the cashier you're paying with your Check Card.  If the transaction amount is available in your checking account, it will be deducted directly from your checking account.  For your protection, some daily transaction and dollar limits may apply.  

Ever wondered why the cashier asks if you want "Debit" or "Credit" when using your Check Card?
The cashier is simply asking how you would like the transaction to be processed.

No matter how you respond- "debit" or "credit" -the purchase will be deducted from your credit union checking account.  In other words, if you say "credit," the purchase will NOT get billed to a credit card.

If your VISA debit or credit card has been lost or stolen, please contact VISA at 1-800-405-7068. If you are unable to reach VISA, please call us at 501-315-3162.


What is the difference?

DEBIT - If you say "debit", the transaction is processed through the ATM network and you must use a personal identification number (PIN).

CREDIT - If you say "credit", the transaction is processed through the Visa network.

It all depends on personal preference. But here's a little-known fact: When you choose "credit" and sign for the purchase it actually helps your credit union and other members because Visa transactions are more efficient and less costly than ATM transactions.

So, the next time you're asked, "Debit or Credit?" help your credit union and say "credit" and see how simple your Check Card is to use!
